Clever Dick's function is really very simple to understand. It watches the prices of digital currency movements 24/7 and reports back to you when the value of your funds (holdings) have increased or fallen to predetermined values set by yourself. It also gives you a convenient current statement anytime you like.
I wrote this program for my own needs. Back in early 2011, I bought 10.5 Bitcoin then forgot about them. By 2014, I was alerted to the fact that the value of my holding had increased 1000 times by people talking about Bitcoin in the office who had seen press reports. By the time I had organised the sale of my coins the price had fallen from 1000 USD to about 220 USD per coin. Since then there has been an explosion of new currencies with potentially many opportunities to take advantage of volatile price fluctuations. Take for example XRP's sudden rise of early 2017. I had staked just 20 euros thinking that it had future potential. Within 3 months, I sold this holding for about 600 euros. I was able to do this because I was watching the price on a daily basis and happened to be lucky enough to back a winner.
My philosophy is that over the long term you should always win with cryptocurrency so long as that currency does not fold or something bad happens like losing your coins or as what happened to me, your exchange turns out to be a bunch of crooks. However, you need to only invest money that you can afford to lose. If the coin's value turns down, you may have to wait years for a recovery. When you buy a new car the chances are you will lose money after you sell it some time later. So at the time you buy the car you know you will be losing money in exchange for the benefit of having the use of the car. You could argue that by using the car you will gain money some how but I am just talking about the difference between the purchase price and the sale price. By evaluating the worst case scenario, you limit any potential losses. In other words don't be tempted to gamble your life savings or remortgage your family home!
Now that you have some cash that you would be happy to throw in the bin, let's hope for a pleasant surprise. So you decide to split your fund and invest it over a number of different currencies that show promise. Now all you have to do is religiously watch the prices once an hour for the next 10 years. At some stage you are going to make a killing, sooner rather than later, we hope. "What!", I hear you say, "Watch the prices every hour for the next 10 years; are you crazy!" Well actually, you are already in the know, yep, that is what 'Clever Dick' does. Here is an example print out, but please bare in mind that you can be alerted by email and or text:
Here is a closer look at the entries, please note that the prices are obtained from coinmarketcap.com. These are an average price around the world. The actual selling price will be set/offered by the organisation to whom you sell.
The readout should be fairly self-explanatory. Take the XEM example. I bought 401.286758 XEM on the 22nd of April 2017. At that time it cost me 20 Euros. Today as I write, the same 401.286758 XEM that I still hold in my XEM wallet is worth approximately 61.96 EUR. This price is a guide only. When I sell this via an exchange, I may have to convert it to another currency before I can recover the value in a fiat currency (a government issued currency like USD or RUB). Actually since I bought this currency, if I recall correctly, the value almost reached 100 EUR before falling back to what seems to be a fairly stable value at the moment. If you want to check the history of the price movements, you can go directly to coinmarketcap.com by clicking the NEM on CoinMarketCap link (highlighted in blue). There you can see graphs and other useful information about the coins current state and its history. Basically, that is it! If you are interested, sign up, more information about buying and selling, and how to store your coins over the long term inside. Currently the system is free of charge however when I am happy that everything is functioning correctly, there will be a small monthly charge applied. If you don't want to pay you will be able to close your account without charge at the time this happens but for now it is free.
